My experience with depression has taken any ability I had to look outwards. Everything becomes unintentionally about me. How am I feeling? How am I coping? It became really hard to see things from a larger perspective and to think outside myself. I call it inward thinking. This concept is best explained through an example so here it is.
Picture yourself out for a walk. Maybe you’re on a trail or walking through a busy downtown street or in a wide open field. Instead of looking around you are wearing horse blinders and your head it fixed toward the ground looking at your feet. What do your surrounding look like? You don’t know. Who is by your side? You don’t know. What lies ahead? You don’t know. You are completely unable to see the bigger picture.
When I think of an open road I’m filled with hope. An open road looks forward, backwards, upwards and sideways but most importantly the person seeing the open road is looking outward towards a world of possibility #wscopenroad
