Experience gives perspective.
It’s our experiences with mental health that give us the perspective to understand others’ stories. This photo was from a bitter cold winter a couple of years back in rural Virginia. There as nothing particularly exciting or interesting about that night and honestly it was a pain to get through.
I trudged out at 10 PM and set up my long exposure, and returned at 1AM, just before the moonrise, to close the shutter. What I was left with was a beautiful image of the stars in the background turning eternally with the earth.
You need to take a long-term and holistic approach to recovery to be able to see any progress. Just because you cannot see the stars move or your own progress does not mean it’s not happening.
